Details:

The 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles are the first summer games to be held in the United States. The 105,000 capacity stadium is the site of the athletics competitions. Many amazing feats will be accomplished in that stadium during the games that are a far cry from the origins of the sports involved. In the late 19th century, long jumpers took a much shorter approach run and had a different mentality in the jumping style than they do in 1932, resulting in an increase of about seven feet in the world record over that time period. Weight throwing requires not only strength but agility and timing to achieve maximum results. Relay racers use their arms for momentum, the arms which must be synchronized between the passer and the receiver. And pole vaulting, which originated in Lincolnshire England, is one of the more colorful athletics events.
