Nathan Parker, known to his friends as ‘Wheels’ from his love of bicycles, heads off from university a day at university, after spending time with his friends and getting some coursework done. His parents come to university to pick him up and they head off to a rehearsal dinner event to celebrate the successful adoption of older children, a cause that Nathan’s parents advocate for, and a system that brought Nathan and his parents together as Nathan was adopted at nine years old. Unfortunately, as they head to the event, their car crashes into another and Nathan’s parents die instantly, leaving Nathan in the back seat, with crushed legs as he looks on at his dead parents before falling unconscious. After those traumatic events, Nathan suffers from PTSD and is left in a wheelchair. The story follows his life after the accident.
