The best part of HIMYM was the very last scene of the story being told. It is Ted Mosby meeting the mother of the children he is telling the story to. It was a payoff built up by many years that fans waited for, and it didn’t disappoint. However, at the end of the very first episode, the mother says “and that’s how I met your father,” and proceeds to flash back to the four men she just met. I didn’t have any hopes for the show, but to take away that payoff immediately was The Last Jedi levels of subverted expectations, and that is never good.
