The High Note (2020)

This was an enjoyable, easy to follow, predictable tale. The best part of the film is the screen time between Dakota Johnson and Kelvin Harrison Jr.. They have a natural chemistry together and I hope to see more work between them. Other than that, the characters are the cliché good, bad, self-absorbed, over-worked and materialistic; it’s quite transparent who is what, there is not a shred of deciphering to be done by the viewer. I did like the twist, but not enough time was devoted to it. It should have come during the second act, not the final act, after the reveal that David’s father had reared him alone due to his mother abandoning the family. All in all, a film worth watching once. 3/5 no higher.
