So, revenge as that famously cold dish…not quite. I liked the sophomoric attempt at misdirection, but there was something off putting in the delivery…or was it the timing…or both?
Only one writer to blame here (Capaldi). I’ve always been leery of projects where an unknown writer is also a cast member, especially when cast as the lead.
And it seemed almost inhumane to see both Jackson and Cassel in supporting roles to an unknown. The denouement fell short due to the casting. In fact, I believe the writer’s ego made the casting a mistake. IMO, Jackson made more sense as the detective in the active investigation with Cassel as the consultant framing Capaldi (or even Hannah) for the murders. Even the supporting cast is comprised of seasoned actors that seemed under-utilized: John Hannah, Kate Dickie (the Chief), Brian McCardie
As I write this, I’m wondering if it was a poorly written script that the talent couldn’t save or is it just that an egotistic writer got in the way of the casting…hmm…or both?
Too bad…it could’ve been a contender!
