I’m liking this so far. I wasn’t sure at first. I thought it was gonna be WB-ish. I didn’t think Kingpin would be in it— he’s more of a Spiderman and Daredevil villain. But solid so far.

Unusually catty, too. Of all the hot takes, the one I least expected was ‘Pattinson is too fat to properly Batman’.

Now that’s how you do a show, or an episode! I almost lifted off my chair with excitement, nervousness, wondering, etc. I don’t wanna spoil anything. Just wanna say this show is awesome and epic!

Batwoman (2019)
Arcangel2020 14 points 3 years ago.

I knew this show was going to be a total disaster once Ruby (I can’t act my way out of wet paper bag) Rose was cast as the lead character. I decided to go against my initial feelings and watch the show…guess was totally right! Ruby Rose is NOT a good or even decent actress to begin with…how she got cast as the “Batwoman” is beyond me..she was in one season of “Orange Is The New Black” and that character barely registered on the attention scope..and then she was in John Wick 2 playing a mute assassin with no speaking lines whatsoever.
The fact that the CW is still continuing this series and recast the main character with a Black actress as the new “Batwoman” is both hysterical and laughable and proves that they don’t know what they are doing with this series that should have been cancelled midway through the first season.

Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement (2016)
AnyCheekiBreeki 6 points 3 years ago.

There is one already, BLM calls it racist because they themselves are racists. BLM is not about what they present themselves as, they’re a covert communist organisation that disguises itself as an anti-racist organisation that cares about black people, when in reality they are the exact opposite. everything they did up ‘till now was either racist and/or endangering the lives of black people and even causing their deaths indirectly and in some cases even directly.
They also don’t represent the black majority’s wishes. recent polls have shown that more than 80% of black people wants the same level of policing or higher, definitely not lower which is what BLM is aiming for by demanding the defunding of the police.

etim 14 points 3 years ago.

True. Most black people don’t want the good cops to go away. They just want to get rid of the bad ones so they’ll stop harassing and murdering their neighbors—and children.

Defunding doesn’t mean taking all the cops’ $$ away, it means getting other trained professionals to take some of the cops’ workloads off and leave the cops to do what they’re actually trained for.

I’ve seen similar feelings from others and thought about it and damn, thinking back EVERY episode in the original seemed about “The Girl” lol (usually of a differing culture/species/race which could be seen pretty radical back then) and a good fight thrown in for good measure lol…..As well, I remember DATA and Tasha Yar getting pretty hot and heavy for a time so I’m not sure “tinman” is doing anything new, myself…this show’s just more campy so likely feels different….but these too are just my dumb-assed opinion, so I’ll leave it at that.

RoboPhone 11 points 5 years ago*.

Thank you for sharing. Although no one is really talking about it, I feel the major issue with this show and ST Discovery stems form CBS. They own the rights for content and marketing of the Star Trek. Despite the fact that their recently defunct CEO was against Sci-Fi and Star Trek specifically. They entered into a contract with the old Viacom years ago and when Viacom changed ownership, a new Viacom emerged. Meanwhile Paramount had certain distribution rights for TOS and the Movies. CBS became so greedy, they went to court to ban any fan-based endeavor over 15 minutes in length. About the same time, The New Star trek movies were not allowed to use “canon” TOS, due to copyrighted concepts, so Abrams had to reinvent Gene Roddenberry’s universe with what they call the Kelvin Timeline. Fan-Based Star Trek Continues was already in post production, so was able to complete. But the ST alumni “Renegades” also had to remove any of the “Trek” from their Requiem Part 2. So much so, that it ruined the story and corrupted the franchise.

Meanwhile, CBS wanted to compete in the streaming platform market, as Netflix was so successful. That same now-defunct anti-Star Trek CEO, was the designated showrunner for CBS All Access. They boasted they could sell a new Star Trek and millions would gobble it up. Netflix was wooed and promised a huge return in their investment. Netflix reportedly financed the entire first season of Discovery. Then trouble behind the scenes began with writers being fired secretly and new ones being hired. The original concept was scraped, partially due to those copyright issues, while the rest was being changed constantly as the season went along. Mostly due to the viewers’ negative reactions. Secondly, due to the tremendous financial loss of Netflix capital, when CBS All-Access subscribers dropped like flies, cancelling their subscriptions. Millions of potential revenue losses, culminated in the firing of the CEO and new writing staff brought in.

So, that’s a little insight into why discovery was not received well. It’s simply not the Star Trek we all grew up with.

Meanwhile Seth McFarlane, a real Trecker, had the notion to create an alternate reality form of Star Trek. No copyright, merchandising, or distribution conflicts to deal with. So, he deftly melded the best of Star Trek TOS,TNG and others. Then sprinkled it with some of his wacky humor. And It worked! (imo)

What I think some folks want is that heavy-action melodrama like when The Borg attacked the Enterprise, Voyager, and even Picard himself. I enjoy those thrill rides. But that can burn you out if it’s the only course on the menu day after day. SO, I find it refreshing to watch Orville for some lighter Sci-Fi. I do enjoy Discovery for the potential apocalyptic consequences it offers as well.

I believe I am successful of doing so without conflict as I am also a Whovian. For those who aren’t, I refer to Doctor WHO, a British Sci-Fi show since the 50’s. It’s about a charismatic time traveler called the Doctor. He does not die. Instead, every so often, he must regenerate. When that happens, a new persona is revealed. In the real world, it’s a new actor. So, essentially, they reinvent the series each time, where it’s just a tad different than the previous. But it’s still the Doctor. That’s why it’s persevered so many years.

But that’s how I view the different incarnations of Star Trek. As long as they follow Gene Roddenberry’s philosophy, I can live with that.

Thanks for reading. I hope it was informative and helpful.

Live Long sad Prosper!

Another A++ true crime doc from Netflix. Apart from showing the utter evil and cold brutality of Ramirez’ crimes, two things stuck out: I really liked how they took the time to show how the lives of the detectives involved in catching Ramirez were effected and the contrast of how far the science of Forensics have come since 1985. It’s hard to believe that a shoe print was the main piece of evidence the Detectives had to work with!

A pure capitalism or a pure socialism has never worked well at all. A mix/balance of the two IS successful and so far seems to be the best way to run a society. It’s just when the balance favors one or the other too heavily that the big problems happen.

The first 3 episodes were very good. A promising start.

The two leads, Amanda Collin (Mother) and Abubakar Salim (Father) are fantastic. Their characters and performances command attention at all times. I’m not entirely sold on the central conflict of the story, as it felt heavy handed. I hope it justifies itself in the long run, although I have my doubts. Still, I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.

OMG I can’t believe I waited so long to watch this show. Trust me folks if you’re thinking that this is just another one of those back in time classics that is nothing but dry humor and dumb classic antics you would be completely mistaken. Almost from the beginning this show grabs your attention with its fantastic acting, great humor, and let’s not forget all of those wonderful sexual innuendos. This show leaves you wanting more with the end of each episode. I can’t help but binge each episode one after another. They really found some great actors that haven’t been seen for a little while and is really great that they’re back. This may not be a show for the entire family, it has a lot of language, nudity, and Rachel Brosnahan…😀

Well first they need to actually educate actually meaningful stuff needed in life, instead of just how to take a test and boost numbers for the sake of money and status. My mom has worked in the schools for 20+ years and has seen us go from teaching kids things they actually need if life to just test taking. It’s sad and apparent in our kids today.

Europeans are already well aware of it. We’ve had school outings to Auschwitz to get a guided tour in painstaking detail of the horrors that happened there before even hitting the teens - of what happens when far right wing politics, fascism, is left unfettered. The end result of an elected leader who alienated allied nations, spoke of walls, promised to solve all the problems and then blamed such on minorities. Who stoked fear, hatred and division within his own nation.

That kind of history is already repeating.

There are plenty of women who like action movies with lots of violence and explosions. Plus there’s the eye candy. It doesn’t have to be believable or even plausible as long as it’s entertaining.
